Vaughan Celebrates Winterfest
Thousands of Residents and visitors joined the Mayor, Members of Council, corporate sponsors and local dignitaries at the City of Vaughan's 21st annual Winterfest, presented by TD Canada Trust on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Vellore Village Community Centre. The event featured entertainment on the Tim Horton’s Stage with performances by “Best of Both Girls”, a tribute to Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus and the official welcome by Mayor Jackson and Members of Council. This year’s Winterfest also included meet-and-greets with some very special guests. Throughout the day, Winterfest visitors had the opportunity to meet with some of their favourite Sesame Street characters and get a photo or two. Coincidentally, one of the Toronto Maple Leafs larger than life personas, Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson was also on hand for an intimate autograph session. His nickname must derive from his sheer size, as the 6’3 Goaltender from Sweden was gracious throughout his encounters with adoring fans. The highlight of the day was arguably the appearance of noted Children’s author Robert Munsch. The author of such classics as “Mortimer” and “Thomas’ Snowsuit”, Munsch proved to be an attraction to all in attendance; after all, his work has touched generations of readers over the course of his celebrated 30-plus year career. The City of Vaughan staff and organizers deserves kudos for putting together the best Winterfest yet, and already, people are looking ahead to what’s in store next year!
