Bottle Drive at The Beer Store
The United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 12R24 and The Beer Store peered up together to help in the search for a cure for Leukemia, “the number one disease killer of children in Canada.” On May 29 and 30, people were encouraged to donate their empty beer and wine bottles to any Beer Store across Ontario. All the funds made from the bottle donations were given to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).
Last year the two organizations were able to obtain 475 empty cases and raised over $830,000 to support the fight. “The key to a successful drive is the cooperation and kind generosity of our customers and the dedication and spirit of the volunteers, the vast majority of which are employees of The Beer Store, their families, and friends,” says Rob Edwards, president of UFCW Local 12R24.
