Ms. Major's Grade 5 class from Mackenzie Glen

Kortright Centre for Conservation Powers Up

On June 15th, the Power Trip Trail at Kortright Centre, a 1.6 km trail that houses the nation’s largest educational showcase of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies, received a little facelift with the help of HSBC Bank Canada. HSBC endowed the Centre for Conservation with $100,000 to, according to a release, “help support educational programming and interactive equipment upgrades including new solar-powered bicycle generators.”
On hand for the tour and unveiling of some of the new technologies were 55 Grade five students from Mackenzie Glen Public School in Maple. The students, all eager to volunteer their services, were in attendance to help test a couple of solar-powered electricity producing bicycles, and to learn about wind energy in the “Go Fly a Kite” program.
