SHOWUP! Vaughan 2011
A mother’s passion and determination to fully communicate with her child proved to be a boon for the art community in York Region last month. SHOWUP! Vaughan 2011 was the brainchild of Rosa Malta, a woman who after finding out her then 3 year old son had been diagnosed with autism, found the Shining Through Centre in Vaughan. SHOWUP! is a way for the Malta’s to join the community in giving back to the school that has given their family so much. Throughout the event, held this year at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, local talent took part in an incredible talent competition that sought after the best in amateur music and dancing performers. The purpose was twofold. One being to raise funds for the centre, which the evening helped with considerably raising over $25,000. And two, to showcase the talent of people like eventual winner Alessia Rio and Runner-Up Shale Wagman. Rosa and organizers deserve kudos for putting together a great event and you can get more info on all of the event details at www.showup-on.ca
