NCIC-TD Honours Distinguished Italian Canadians
The contributions of Italian Canadians in this country have been well documented throughout history. While early entrants into Canada had a profound impact on such areas as infrastructure, recent history has seen an evolution leading to excellence in business, political, and academic circles. On May 4th, The National Congress of Italian Canadians- Toronto District (NCIC-TD) held a celebration to honour individuals who fit this mould at a classy Dinner & Awards Ceremony. Many gathered at La Primavera Hospitality and Convention Centre in Woodbridge to honour Mario Cortellucci, Angela Gauthier and Stephen Lecce, as each was presented with an award in tribute of their accomplishments. Cortellucci & Gauthier were given the organization’s Ordine al Merito award. Cortellucci, a distinguished businessman and entrepreneur, had the honour bestowed upon him for his extensive philanthropic endeavours; while Gauthier’s contributions in the field of education and volunteerism netted her the award. Lecce was presented the Youth Achievement Award, as his resume boasts an incredible list of work with non-profit organizations, charitable events, and a slew of personal accolades stemming from his time at the University of Western Ontario. The organization could not have found more worthy people to present with these awards in 2012, and SNAP would like to take this opportunity to congratulate each winner on being recognized as true leaders in the Italian Canadian community.
